Loan routes

How medical education loans differ

Medical students often see four very different repayment structures. Which one fits depends on your college, admission route, credit and co-applicants.

Scheme route (PM-Vidyalaxmi)

₹0 required during study

For merit admissions at the exact campus listed as a Quality Higher Education Institution (QHEI). Collateral-free, with a course-plus-one-year moratorium. Interest still accrues unless an interest-support benefit covers it.

Simple-interest route

Monthly interest during study

For MBBS, BDS, MD, MS and MDS in India, on loans above ₹7.5 lakh. You pay simple interest while studying and the full EMI later. A financial co-applicant is required.

PG flexible-income route

Fixed partial payment by loan band

For MD/MS in India. Your stipend and co-applicant income can be combined — or stipend alone can be assessed. The study-period payment depends on loan amount and security, not on the stipend.

Direct EMI & secured review

Full EMI from disbursement

Used when the routes above don't fit, and for most study-abroad cases. Co-applicant income must support the EMI; some routes need property collateral roughly equal to the loan.

Only a lender can sanction a loan. The checker applies FundMyCampus's screening rules and supplied product terms; final rates, amounts and conditions are confirmed by the lender.

India

Medical education loans in India

  • MBBS loans — scheme, simple-interest and direct-EMI routes, depending on college and admission route.
  • BDS loans — check your dental college; directory presence doesn't confirm a scheme listing.
  • MD / MS loans — stipend can be combined with co-applicant income on the flexible-income route.
  • MDS loans — product coverage is confirmed case by case; MD/MS terms are not assumed.

Scheme coverage is campus-specific. An affiliated university's listing does not automatically cover its colleges, and management / NRI quota admissions are excluded from the scheme route.

Abroad

MBBS abroad loans

DestinationRepaymentCollateral
Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, KazakhstanDirect EMIRequired
Georgia, ItalyDirect EMINot mandatory
Other countriesCountry-specific lender review

These are FundMyCampus screening assumptions, not universal bank policy. The university, course recognition and co-applicant income must be accepted by the lender. Overseas rates are quoted case by case.

Repayment

What a ₹50 lakh medical loan can cost each month

Same loan, different structures. Figures assume the full amount is disbursed at once; real payments are lower early on because fees are disbursed in stages.

StructureIllustrative rateDuring studyAfter study (10-year EMI)
Simple-interest route, secured9.25% p.a.*₹38,542 / month interest₹64,016 / month
Simple-interest route, unsecured10.75% p.a.*₹44,792 / month interest₹68,169 / month
PG flexible-income route (above ₹25L to ₹50L)Lender quote₹15,000 / month partial paymentPer sanction terms
Direct EMI11.5% p.a. (example)₹70,298 / month EMI₹70,298 / month

*Campaign rates for eligible lender application IDs created through 15 November 2026, subject to lender confirmation; processing fee ₹19,999 + GST. Figures exclude fees, insurance and taxes. At a 50% FOIR assumption, a ₹70,298 EMI needs about ₹1,40,595/month of eligible co-applicant income.

Questions

Medical education loan FAQs

Straight answers to what students and parents ask us most about MBBS, BDS and PG medical loans.

Still unsure about your case? Share your result with a counsellor — it's free. Check my eligibility → Ask on WhatsApp
Can I get an MBBS loan without collateral?

Some routes allow it. The institution, your admission route and the lender's policy decide it. Use the college check above instead of assuming every MBBS loan needs security.

Is PM-Vidyalaxmi available at every medical college?

No. The exact institution and campus must be on the current QHEI list, and the admission must be merit-based. Check your college above.

Is interest waived during the moratorium?

Not automatically. A moratorium defers repayment; interest still accrues. An interest subsidy is a separate benefit with its own income and eligibility conditions.

Can more than one co-applicant contribute income?

Yes, the checker combines them for screening. The lender decides which relationships and income evidence it accepts.

Can my stipend alone support a PG loan?

Potentially, on the flexible-income route, if the lender accepts the stipend for underwriting. It doesn't change the payment band and doesn't remove the parent-credit requirement.

Will I pay ₹15,000 throughout the loan?

No. ₹15,000 is the study-period payment for loans above ₹25 lakh up to ₹50 lakh on the PG flexible-income route. Larger loans have higher bands, and the full EMI applies after study.

Does an affiliated university's QHEI listing cover my college?

Don't assume so. The exact teaching institution and the scheme's scope must be confirmed.

Can self-employed parents be co-applicants?

Yes, but their income evidence is assessed differently, so these cases go for lender review rather than an automatic fit.

What CIBIL score does this checker need?

Under FundMyCampus's current screen, a student below 670 has no route offered; 670–700 is direct EMI only; normal screening needs the student above 700 and at least one parent above 700. These are screening rules, not a sanction or a universal bank policy.

What if I have no credit history?

Select "No credit history (NH / NA)". Your profile goes for review — it is not treated as a zero score.

Are management-quota students eligible for the scheme route?

No. Management and NRI quota admissions are excluded from the PM-Vidyalaxmi / QHEI route. Other lender products can still be reviewed.

Does checking here affect my CIBIL score?

No. The checker does not make a credit bureau enquiry. The scores you enter are self-reported.

Does "QHEI coverage not confirmed" mean I'm rejected?

No. It means our dated snapshot hasn't established scheme coverage for that record. A counsellor can check spelling, campus identity and later list updates, and review other routes.
