Security
Tata Capital offers unsecured education loans up to ₹75 Lakhs for premier global universities and ₹50 Lakhs for top Indian institutions. For loans above these unsecured limits, Tata Capital accepts: residential property (LTV 70–80%), commercial property (LTV 55–65%), fixed deposits with select banks (LTV 90%), LIC endowment policies with surrender value, and government securities. Tata is more conservative than HDFC Credila on LTV ratios — typically lending 5–8% less for the same property valuation. Collateral valuation is done by Tata-empanelled valuers within 7–10 working days. Agricultural land, ancestral property without clear title, and properties in unauthorised colonies are not accepted.
Coverage
Tata Capital's approved university list covers approximately 800 institutions globally. Their Premier tier (about 300 universities) includes Ivy League, top US public R1 universities, Group of Eight Australia, top UK universities (Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, LSE, UCL, KCL), and top Singapore/Hong Kong institutions. Their Approved tier covers most QS Top 500 institutions globally. For Indian studies, Tata Capital funds all IITs, IIMs (including baby IIMs), AIIMS, NITs, BITS Pilani, ISB, XLRI, MDI, SPJIMR, FMS, and most NIRF top 100 institutions. Tata Capital is particularly comfortable with MBA loans and STEM Master's programs, less so with non-conventional courses (design, film, music) — for those, Avanse is a better fit. Tata's list is updated quarterly.

Compare
If Tata Capital doesn't suit your profile, here are the strongest alternatives.
Direct NBFC competitor with similar approval timeline. Credila offers higher unsecured limits (₹1.5 Cr vs Tata's ₹75 L) and slightly lower rates (10.50%–13% vs Tata's 10.99%–13.99%). Choose Credila for higher amounts; Tata for the brand trust factor.
Compare for my profilePrivate bank alternative at 9.85%–12.50% rates — 1%–1.5% cheaper than Tata. Choose ICICI if you can wait 7–14 days and have a strong co-applicant; Tata is faster but more expensive.
Compare for my profilePSU alternative at 8.65%–10.15% — significantly cheaper. Choose SBI if you can wait 15–25 days and need lowest cost; Tata wins on speed and brand recall.
