The Complete Guide
The ACT (American College Testing) is a standardised undergraduate admissions test used widely across the United States and accepted by universities in Canada, Singapore, the UK and the UAE. It's a direct alternative to the SAT — all US universities accept both.
The ACT covers English, Math, Reading and Science, with an optional Writing section, and is scored from 1 to 36 (the composite is the average of the four sections). Competitive universities typically look for 30+. Scores are generally valid for around five years.
This guide covers the ACT format, fees, where it's accepted, and how an education loan can fund your test, prep and the undergraduate degree it leads to.
The sections you'll be tested on — scored 1–36.
English
Grammar, usage and rhetorical skills.
Math
Algebra, geometry and trigonometry (calculator allowed).
Reading
Comprehension across prose, social science and natural science.
Science
Interpretation, analysis and reasoning with data — unique to the ACT.
Class 11–12 students planning an undergraduate degree in the USA (and other countries that accept it). Students who are strong in science or prefer a slightly faster, more straightforward format often choose the ACT over the SAT. All US universities accept both equally.
Common for: Undergraduate (bachelor's) programs across all disciplines at US universities and many international institutions that accept US admissions tests.
Financing
Undergraduate study abroad is a major investment — a 4-year US bachelor's can cost ₹1.5–2.8 Crore. An education loan can cover not only tuition and living costs but also pre-departure expenses like ACT fees, coaching and applications.
Because undergraduate applicants have no income, lenders assess the co-applicant's profile and often require collateral for larger amounts. FundMyCampus helps families plan this — pre-assessing eligibility before you take the ACT so you target colleges within budget.
